2km a Day Completed!

The start of our 50th year in partnership with Anthony Nolan has kicked off with a boost thanks to a band of Tablers picking up the baton and taking part in the 2km a day in June challenge.

Thanks to Steve Eccles, James Edwards, Chris Bush, Tom Frost, Josh Hicks, Matt Jakeman, Adam Jump, Darren Woodall, Cole Booth, Andy Norris, Matt Dawson, Geoff Bull, Jim Collings, Daniel Albon, Zak Davies, Peter Mason, Col Devitt, Simon Pemlington, Sheraz Shahid, Pete Biggins, Elsie Elliot, Stephen Elliot, Neil Mackay, Paul Thompson, Michael Dalton, Dan Albon, Thom Donnelly and Jon Shepard. These legends ran, cycled, walked, paddle boarded and skipped a collective total of 3692km! As well as that they also managed to collect in donations an impressive £5997.

Anthony Nolan recently thanked all of the participants and helped put some of these figures into perspective for us, the money raised could:

  • Recruit 149 potential donors to the register

  • Potentially fund 206 hours of support from a specialist Anthony Nolan nurse, helping patients with their recovery, quality of life and well-being post-transplant.

  • Or it could give 41 patients an initial assessment from an Anthony Nolan clinical Psychologist to diagnose a patient and identify those most at risk.

  • Our fundraising could fund 59 Patient and Family education days, including travel costs, where they can get essential advice following a Stem Cell transplant and speak to other families and patients affected.

We wanted to give a huge shoutout to Elsie Elliot who went above and beyond in this challenge! She raised an incredible £1,960 and achieved an impressive 60km throughout

July.– Thank you Elsie!

With such a great start to the year Steve Eccles, National President wants to remind Tablers that this partnership is not just about raising money! There are several ways Tables and individual Tablers can help including:

Grow the Register to help Anthony Nolan save lives and keep families together

If you are under 30, then sign up to become a donor www.anthonynolan.org/roundtable .  Anthony Nolan needs more young men (age 16-30) to sign up as donors and become lifesavers, young men supply 55% of all donations, but only make up 18% of the register!. The register has 900,000 names on at present, Anthony Nolan have a target to grow this by 100,000. A massive challenge as donors need to be under 30 (stem cells from younger donors have a much higher success rate). So, just like Table, donors are continually ‘aging out.’

They need more, young people (especially men) to sign up each year.

Raise Awareness

Spread the word, let everyone know about Anthony Nolan on Social Media and let everyone know about the fantastic work you are doing.  Each Table has thousands of local followers so this is a superb way that Anthony Nolan can reach into our local communities.  You can help getting word out and helping diversify the register through reach into your community.

Get Involved - #DoMore

Over 30 and still want to help Anthony Nolan directly?  No problem, volunteer – they have a massive range of volunteer roles depending on the commitment you’re able to give.  These range from Online Community Champions, helping running events through to volunteer couriers (local, national and international travel!) find out more on this dedicate page of their website: www.anthonynolan.org/roundtable
